Blood Cancer

Blood cancer refers to cancers that affect blood cells, bone marrow, or the lymphatic system, including leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. These cancers interfere with the body’s ability to produce healthy blood cells and immune defenses. Common symptoms may include fatigue, recurrent infections, easy bruising, fever, swollen lymph nodes, unexplained weight loss, and weakness. Blood cancer develops when abnormal blood cells multiply uncontrollably and crowd out healthy cells.
Diagnosis usually involves blood tests, bone marrow examination, imaging, and specialized laboratory studies. Treatment depends on the exact type and stage of disease and may include chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, bone marrow transplant, or supportive transfusion care. Some blood cancers respond very well to modern treatment, especially when detected early. Long-term monitoring is often necessary because certain blood cancers require maintenance therapy or regular follow-up to detect relapse and maintain remission.
