Sarcoma and bone cancer are uncommon cancers that develop in bones, muscles, fat, connective tissue, or soft tissues. Bone cancers may affect the limbs, pelvis, or spine, while soft tissue sarcomas can arise in many body parts. Symptoms often include persistent pain, swelling, restricted movement, or a growing lump. Because these tumors may mimic benign conditions initially, diagnosis often requires imaging, biopsy, and specialized pathology review.
Treatment depends on tumor type, grade, and location and may involve surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or targeted treatment. In many cases, limb-preserving surgery is possible instead of amputation. Early diagnosis is important because sarcomas can spread to lungs or other organs if untreated. Modern cancer care for sarcoma focuses on complete tumor removal while preserving mobility and function as much as possible. Long-term follow-up is important because recurrence can occur even after successful treatment.
