Liver Cancer Management

Liver cancer management involves treating cancers that begin in the liver or spread to it from other organs. Primary liver cancer most commonly includes hepatocellular carcinoma, which is often associated with chronic liver disease, hepatitis infection, alcohol-related liver damage, or cirrhosis. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, jaundice, weakness, weight loss, swelling, and appetite reduction. Diagnosis usually involves blood tests, liver imaging, CT scan, MRI, and biopsy when necessary.

Treatment depends on liver function, tumor size, and spread. Options may include surgery, ablation, embolization, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, or chemotherapy in selected cases. In some patients, liver transplantation may also be considered. Effective liver cancer management requires balancing cancer control with preservation of liver function because the liver performs essential metabolic functions. Early diagnosis significantly improves treatment possibilities and long-term outcomes.
